A few days ago I visited our local library. We were feeling the need for a book fix and I decided with Christmas coming we would embark on a Christmas book journey. Most of the libraries I have been to through the years will have a holiday section or at least pull the upcoming seasonal books and put them on a special display. But woe to my dismay no Christmas books ...they were all put away.
So, I asked the nice lady shelving the books if she knew where I could find them? She then pointed to the top of a shelf that displayed a few books and said there they are. How could I have missed them, with titles such as Arthurs Holiday Play, The Cat's First Christmas, Clifford's First Christmas, A Present for Holly, and my favorite The Present..with this scary looking package on the cover with beady eyes looking out. I think they forgot which holiday it was. I then said kindly, " do you have anything a bit more traditional?" She gave me a quizzical look and started to search. She found me a few more Arthur books and a book about some animals having Christmas in the woods and then finally holds up this beautiful treasure " Away in A Manger." I snatched it up and held it tight and could not believe this was all we could find. -Thousands of books and this is all they had that spoke of the glory, the grace, the mercy, and the hope of Christmas.
I titled this post "Gathering Dust" because I see how easy it is to put the important things away and how distracted we can get by the new and the latest whatever. Meanwhile, the thing that was so important and had deep meaning is lost, still put away somewhere.
