Well, after recuperating from a long week in Sin City and then getting home to nurse a cold and a teething, grumpy baby I have a moment to blog.
It feels as if I have been put in a barrel and then someone kicked it down a really big hill. This chest cold is a killer and combined with my dog allergies that have just kicked in, I feel quite out of it.
But enough of the boo hoo. :)
We left for Las Vegas the morning of the 13th at 4 am in the middle of a blizzard. We drove really fast for about two hours....50 mph in a 75. Then the sky opened up and it was beautiful all the way down to the desert. We arrived that Saturday night at about 6 p.m and rode in bumper to bumper traffic for two hours to get to our hotel which was only a mile away from the freeway exit.
The next morning we jumped up at 6 a.m. and ran three blocks with a baby umbrella stroller to catch a bus that was to take us to the 5k run. The bus driver was just getting in to leave when we came screaming around the corner and begged for a ride.
After the great warm up run before my run, I felt alive and ready to go. The gun went off and I began the three mile trek down a large hill that lead to a dry river bed in a ravine full of vegetation and birds. Quite breath taking really. UP a hill, down a hill, down some more, down some more. Do you know what happens when you start the beginning of a race going down into a ravine? At the half way point, you turn around and have to run back up the ravine! My calves felt like they had went through a meat grinder.
The results were good though, for my first 5k in two years my time was 28:30. Not bad for a short little mama who had no idea we were running hills that day!
The rest of the trip was uneventful. All I did was sit by the pool and play with the baby soaking up as much sun as possible.
As we were leaving, John decided we couldn't leave Vegas without gambling once. So he put a 5 dollar bill in a slot machine and won 85 bucks! After coming home he took me to a really nice dinner for a late Valentine's Day date. Thanks for sharing honey. I love you too!
