My Rant

The other day I was perusing a church library.  I love that churches have started to have these gems for us to use and to find inspiration and wholesome books.
But, I have mixed feelings about a book I happened to spot in the christian living section.
The title as best I can remember was "How to Help Your Children Learn to Love the Earth."
For one, I found it interesting that a book with this title was there, and say not one that said....Help your children learn to love God or love others or anything else that Jesus encouraged us to do during His walk here on earth.  As best I remember His focus was on loving God and loving others.
It is good to be good stewards of what we have.  In fact we can show that love by being good stewards; not using more than we need, giving away what we don't need, cleaning up after ourselves, recycling products so we don't have to use up more natural resources, and doing our best to behave responsibly about our planets natural beauties (animals, plants, water).
The catch here, that I see is that there is a movement these days to focus on the earth and not much else.  The earth being the new idol.  We have to be so careful that we do not focus in so much on these great causes that we have replaced our first love with them.  When the focus and desire of a people shift to worshiping something besides God and elevating themselves as the saviors of the world rather than Christ, truth becomes distorted, people become dissatisfied, angry, unloving, and entire nations have been known to fall.  It is history repeating itself.
If we go back to the Word and read carefully and follow what it says- teaching our children diligently about love, respect, responsibility, standing up for truth, worshiping God only- the other stuff will fall into place.
So, I guess what I am saying is that it was sad to find a book such as this in the church library.  And I stand on my belief.
