This morning my husband went to make an omelette. He was so excited, for we had all the fixin's. He carefully whipped up his eggs, added the chopped ham, and the shredded sharp cheese, and even went through the effort to steam it so that it was cooked just right.
But it didn't work.
Why? Because somewhere over the course of history he saw or heard someone say you have to add milk to the eggs. He has learned and relearned through countless failed omelettes that adding milk makes the egg weak and therefore very hard to flip up the sides. Yet, he forgot and added the milk anyways.
So, my dear husband ended up having scrambled eggs instead.
After he left for work and I was cleaning up the kitchen I pondered the issue of the omelette. And it occurred to me that my man did something that so many of us do daily. He continued to do something that he knew didn't work because it had become a habit or a thought that this time it'll be ok.
How many times do I do something over and over again that I know isn't working?
I'll give an example: If I don't get my coffee drank, breakfast ate, and self dressed before my husband leaves for work the homeschooling day is shot.
Yet, at least twice a week I sit in my rocker chair and drink the coffee sloooowly, then visit my man before he leaves, then check my email, etc.. etc. when I am finally done dinking around I realize it is 9 or later and we are an hour behind on our day!
So today, as I was complaining in my heart about the lack of schoolwork done, I remembered the omelette. Then I said out loud to me-self..."How's that workin' for ya'?"
Ha!
Time to change. Time to develop. Time to grow.
