Fuzzy Kittens

My husband was the Vet. on call this weekend.  On Friday night the phone rang.
The caller was actually a friend of ours who's family has an uncanny ability to go through animals, especially the cute fuzzy type.  When, she realized it was John on call she asked if she could bring a kitten to our home to look at, hopefully without after hours fees attached.
We agreed that it would be ok.
The kitten had been running around their living room chasing things and doing what kitties do.  A five yr. old boy decided to jump on the elliptical trainer and give it a go.
Friends!  Never, never, ever let your kids on adult exercise equipment.  They are too small to use it correctly and they can not stop these machines quick enough to keep from harming others.  (I have heard of many horrid accidents involving young  children and exercise machines.)

Anyways, child playing on elliptical, and kitten running into the tracks did not mix.

Our friend pretty much left the unconscious kitty with us to home doctor.  It could not see, hear, or move do to it's injuries. We have been holding it, changing it's bedding, feeding it with droppers, and praying it will come back.
Today, she lifted her head and walked a few steps.
Now the dilemma.
Our friend already got a new kitten, leaving this one for dead.
She wants it back if it snaps out of it.
My heart is screaming no!  My children have pet her for hours, prayed to Jesus for her, and cried over her.  We know that it is a dangerous environment for small animals at this home and she is fragile.
I don't want to give her back.
My husband says he saves dozens of animals that go back to harsh homes, it's just how it is.
Ugg, I know she is not mine.  But I wish she was.

  1. Toddler boy across the street from us in SC was at a home daycare and damaged his hand so bad on a stationary bicycle that will probably never have full, normal use of that hand again.

And I've been where you are not wanting to let the kitten go - but with children I've watched. Knowing they're going back home to a shaky environment...
    Just wanting to keep them.
Knowing they aren't mine to keep.

  2. So sad about his hand, I heard a similar story about a boy here in town that lost toes in an elliptical.

..The whole wanting to save little innocents is so hard sometimes. We have a little guy across the alley. He literally begs to be with us.
