Vacation Mode

Did you know that some hot water heaters have a vacation mode?  If you are going to be gone for the day or weekend you can turn it to vacation mode and save on heating.....or you can just turn the whole thing off!
We did this last month when we left for two consecutive weekends and our bill came in much lower than I had budgeted for.  Yeah!
Other helpful hints to save cash are
unplug your chargers
open the curtains during the day so you are not tempted to turn lights on
unplug tv's and monitors when not using...these items will suck energy even when off
when cooking, plan on cooking multiple things at a time so that you are not turning your oven on and off, on and off, this saves energy on having to heat up a cold oven over and over again.

  1. G'pa S unplugged 5 refrig and 6 hot water heaters yesterday; plus several small appliances. It does make a big dif. It is good stewardship!
