Have you ever seen the show "Dirty Jobs?"
It's a great show for learning about all of the nasty jobs that are out there that normal people have to perform to keep the world turning.
One of the shows I watched was about a rendering plant. If you don't know what that is....maybe you might not want to know.
This one was based in California. It is a family operated plant and what they do is go around to all of the dairy's and farms in the area picking up the dead cows and bringing them home to be rendered. There are many different processes that happen here so that not one single part of the cow is wasted. Almost all products made, we consume.
I was fine with most of it, hey that's life.
...Until they took what was left toward the end and boiled it in this big vat to get all of the leftover fats and such.
What I learned from this was that some out favorite facial products from lotions to cover ups, even some shampoos are made from this vat of leftover cow.
I gagged.
Anyways, that just doesn't seem that healthy to me.
So I have slowly been trying to switch our household products to more natural, vegetable derived ingredients. I have a long way to go but it is hard to change a whole way of living.
Yesterday, my friend invited me to her home to teach me how to make home made soap.
This was so fun and I am excited to try it on my own.
Yes, K. I will do this by myself. :)
I have been buying natural soaps for a few months and our skin feels so much better. It is very exciting to know that I can provide something so simple yet so vital for my family's health. I can do this and I can teach my children.
It is important to learn even the most simplest of life skills, especially as the world becomes more dependent on others....I don't want my children begging for hand outs. I want them to be on the side of knowledge, giving, and teaching. Not recieving and leaving only to come back for more; because they are helpless.
