Hum a Little Tune

Over and over in the book of Psalms, the psalmist repeats the thought of making a joyful noise to the Lord, shouting praises in His name.
This morning I caught myself  humming a tune, a hymn, actually.
Then a thought occurred to me, nobody hums anymore.  I remember when I was a child listening to grown ups hum all of the time, maybe even whistle a tune here and there.  This used to bring great joy in my heart as a child.  Imagine what joy it brings the Lord when through our worship in song we bring praises to His name.  Have we forgotten how to go about the day giving thanks and shouting out with joy for our Lord?
Have our phones called our hearts away with their demands of texting, ringing, and apps to explore?  Does the i pod in our ears drown out the sound of birds singing outside?  Do we choose to watch a favorite show or check our face book status instead of spending some time in the Word or even conversing with our families?  I wonder, does the Lord hear us shouting out praises and thanksgiving?  Or is the sound of computers humming and our too busy lives drowning out the sweet song of life that calls quietly to our souls?

  1. The last two years hymns have been brought back into our lives - they're the only music sung at our last two churches.
I love it. It took me a little while to appreciate hymns, but now I don't ever want to go back. And I love that it's what my kids hum. It's what Kait plays on the piano much of the time. And Holy Holy Holy is the first song Jesse ever sang.

    It's refreshing.

  2. Yes, we have been going to a church that sings hymns too. We also have been playing them a lot lately on Pandora. It calms the atmosphere in our house.
