A church we were attending but then switched from last fall just imploded.
Last year the pastor had a heart attack and while he was in recovery a couple of families took over. These families run the board and have a lot of clout.
We left during this time.
When the pastor came back, recovered, he had lost the church. He no longer had a say in church matters and he was no longer seeked for his wisdom and guidance.
Two weeks ago, the board and some others decided to kick out two entire families from the church. The pastor was not sought for his thoughts on the matter and there was no vote.
What did these families do?
One family was told that they were too Pentecostal....the board didn't like that they would sit and pray during service, hold private prayer groups, and they also spoke in tongues. (this family was very respectful and I actually never noticed them, therefore I conclude that they were quite quiet and didn't interrupt service)
The other family, was kicked out because the mom was too evangelistic and was talking about Heaven and Hell a little too much. And ...some people didn't like the way she lifted her hands during the music worship time. Really?
These folks were kicked out for being Christians in a Christian church? While the hypocrites, alcoholics, greedy, fornicators, backsliders get to stay? Who will be an example of Christ or of Christian living now?
The poor pastor, after this, announced he was leaving.
To the family that "prayed too much"
1Thessalonians 5:17
"Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, in everything give thanks;
for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you."
To the mom who "lifted her hands too much"
Psalm 63: 3-4
"Because Your loving kindness is better than life,
My lips shall praise You.
Thus I will bless You while I live;
I will lift up my hands in Your name."
Psalm 134:2
"Lift up your hands in the sanctuary,
And bless the Lord."
Bless you dear families for reading your Bibles and letting the Word of God pour from your hearts.
