There is a basket on the counter at my work that has drink mixes and small packages of gum in it. The items are free for the clients to use and is a nice gesture by the new owners of the gym.
While doing my duties at the front counter, I have observed an interesting thing about people.
There are once again three types of people when confronted with a basket of free goodies.
Person #1 is moved by the gesture but does not take anything, they say things like, "oh I'll just use what I have," or " thank you, maybe I'll take something next time."
Person #2 takes one thing out of the basket, maybe two and says thank you with a smile.
Person #3 says "free, really?!" they then take a handful of the free items, putting them in their pockets and then looks through the basket to make sure they didn't miss something really special. They usually take one or two more items saying it's for so and so, oh and one for me for the road.....they must have forgot the pocketful they already had.
I can't help but wonder, "which of these types of people am I?
Which is you?
And most of all, what does it say about ourselves?
