As a home school mom, I am always thinking about the next thing. The next math book, the next spelling/grammar book, do I buy premade curriculum or keep putting things together as we go? Do I try to teach the 5 and 8 yr. old the same lessons and then make the home work more fitted for each child? Sometimes it can get quite confusing.
One thing I am going to stay consistant with is Math-u-see.
We do well with the format and I believe the straight forward lessons are less distracting for the kids.
We will not be doing Mystery of History. I tried and retried this book, but both girls and myself felt our eyes glazing over as I read the lessons out loud.
Other than that, I am leaning 20 different directions and not sure where to go.
I also have to consider science this year. Our wonderful homeschool science teacher had to move on to a more economical job. I sure am going to miss taking the girls to science class.
Do you home school?
Any ideas?
Any disappointments with certain books, curriculum's?
Yes, I homeschool, well at least I did today :o) No, I dont have any ideas, yes I ditched Mystery of History as well.
ReplyDeleteWhat else were you asking???
Ha, ha. I know you ditched that book as well. It seemed like the perfect solution until my kids were crying by page twenty.
ReplyDeleteI think we are going to do Beautiful Feet....we'll see.
My friend uses beautiful feet and her kids absolutely love it. She says it's a lot of work, but is perfect for the way they homeschool.
ReplyDeleteWe don't really start serious schooling until our kids are 7 or 8. Until then it's all fun stuff, natural exploration through play, and the occasional workbook page or flash card if they're interested.
And we really disliked Math-U-See. It's cool how every homeschool family does it a little differently, according to their own interests and needs. It's definitely how it's meant to be.
Hope you had a good birthday!
