Celebrate

While growing up my family was never big on Holidays.  Well, except for Christmas that is.  It was a big bang for Christmas.  But what about the other Holidays?
Sure we went through the motions of the "special" day; cake on your B-day, candy and boiled eggs on Easter, and fireworks and watermelon on the Fourth.
Now that I am an adult and am reflecting on things, I realized that while going through the motions everything felt kind of  mediocre and not really that special.  It was more of a stresser to prepare for a Holiday and the joy was of sucked out of them.
And, to my dismay, I am doing the same things.
My kids know the Fourth is coming, and that there is a rodeo in town, a parade, and a big barbecue.  But I don't think I have ever taken the time to sit down with them and tell them what the Fourth is about and why we celebrate it.  In fact, besides the usual pat answer of "it's Independence Day"  I personally don't really know what the Fourth is about.  I have some general conclusions but I get lost in the details.
All I know is that a bunch of people come over and I have to clean the house, bake a pie, plan a couple of meals, and water my garden.  Yup that's the Fourth.  Sad, isn't it?
So,
my goal is to sit down, try to relax, find some info. and chat with the kids about our great country and why we are celebrating freedom and what that means.
Have a great Holiday, and God Bless.
