Childhood

I know things are tight.
I know food is expensive, the bills are piling up, and the kids outgrew their shoes again.
But that is no excuse to be ill tempered and a stick in the mud.

Yesterday, my husband and I looked at the calendar and realized that we only have three weeks of summer left and we have been grumping around like it was the middle of March in a snow storm.
We grabbed the kids, loaded them up and headed to the water slides.
It was hot.
It was fun.
It was expensive!
But we were smiling, playing, and so were the kids.  In fact they are still laughing and smiling about it this morning.
Was it worth it?
Yes!

We were talking about what we remembered from our childhood.  It wasn't t.v., or gadgets, or eating out.  It was the moments where our parents surprised us with something different, and something family oriented.
I remember a picnic of peanut butter and jelly sandwiches at a park we had never been to.  A camping trip with eggs and bacon.  I remember my dad and I hiking to a lake and then running back down the mountain laughing and out of breath in the middle of a downpour.
What will your kids remember?
