After some weighing things over, talking to a friend, talking to my husband, and listening to my gut, I deleted my fresh face book account.
Something didn't sit well. And, I am sorry. I know some of you were excited for the new opportunity in communication with me.
One thing that I wanted to mention that put me over the edge was that I was almost instantly contacted by an old acquaintance. A man. A married man.
He has contacted me before through google chat and I never responded. Then with face book, in rash excitement for something new, I responded back.
The messages from my new old "friend" began to fly.
Oh man. Let's not go there.
How many more men would want to be my friend? These are people I normally don't visit with. Why should I spend the precious time I have corresponding back and forth with someone who I don't really know?
The bible talks about "guarding our hearts."
This morning with coffee in one hand, my husband beside me, we deleted the distraction from our lives.
That's the same reason Ryan deleted his Facebook after only 2 weeks. He had more girls friend him on there than guys and they just kept coming and we both felt it uncomfortable that he would gave friendships with girls I didn't even know. I guess that's the product of growing up in a small town. Also, there were many of them that seemed to have no shame or limits as to the links and stuff they would post for him to see. And that was only two weeks in. I remember the moment he deleted it for good. Someone had sent him a link to a picture of a "hot chick".
ReplyDeleteI've never had a facebook account, much to my family's dismay.
I guess the only way to stay in contact with people now days is through facebook. Darn.
Also, did you know that you can't just delete your facebook account? It is saved there forever, all you have to do is log back in and everything is still there unless you have the special delete web address. That could have changed - it was more than a year ago that I had to do research to figure out how to permanently delete Ryan's for him. He was pretty ticked that they only pseudo deleted it.
